Layered over trees
a delicate snow blanket
winter’s fragile grasp
Bark stripped from the trunk
remnants of an ancient wound
beauty of nature
Pine tree by the wall
snakelike trunk twisted upward
a peek at mankind
Trimmed prim and propper
every branch decorated
ready for Christmas
Walking through the woods
under an emerald sky
time strangely quiet
Forever wading
the creek no longer recedes
eaten by green mold
A life in the box
meant to be relocated
growing tall and true
Torn up by the roots
cemetery overseer
victim of the storm
Frozen water dances
encasing the lonely trees
no sign of the spring
Roots drinking water
reaching into the river
relieving coolness
